Abstract: Brain Entrainment Research Project (9/7/2024)

Introduction

PVNet identified learned helplessness—a psychological condition where individuals feel powerless, demotivated, and unable to improve their circumstances after repeated stress or failure—as a widespread mental health challenge. This condition is especially prevalent among youth and adults experiencing chronic academic, social, or personal pressure.

Methodology

In response, PVNet launched a research project to evaluate the BrainTap system, a wellness device and mobile app that uses the principle of brainwave entrainment. This method exposes users to synchronized light and sound pulses, which are designed to guide the brain into specific states associated with relaxation, focus, or emotional balance. The aim was to assess whether consistent use of BrainTap could help reduce symptoms associated with helplessness and promote emotional resilience.

Participants used the “Worry Free Me” audio-visual program daily. This program is designed to reduce anxiety by promoting a calm and stable mental state through guided visualization, binaural beats, and pulsed LED light. Each session was preceded and followed by self-assessments measuring mood, perceived stress, self-esteem, and motivation levels. Assessment tools included the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and additional wellness inventories.

Results

Over the course of the study, participants reported increased emotional stability, higher confidence, and greater willingness to face challenges rather than withdraw. Data from daily assessments showed a consistent trend of improvement, especially in the areas of mood regulation and perceived control.

Conclusion

These preliminary findings suggest that BrainTap, when used regularly, may serve as an accessible and non-invasive tool to help counter the psychological effects of learned helplessness and support overall emotional well-being.
