Are you interested in underwater exploration?
Recovering sunken treasure?
Well, we don't know of any local treasure wrecks, but we are conveniently close to a large body of water (the Pacific Ocean!). Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) are robots that perform tasks in environments inhospitable to humans. Participants will start the assembly of small ROVs using materials that can be obtained from local hardware stores, hobby shops and/or Amazon.
PVNet is giving thought to fielding one or more teams in the annual Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Competition. The competition is the nation's best known ROV contest and has categories for college, high school, middle school, and K-5 students. If there is enough interest, the class may be offered weekly until the actual competition in May. Interested parties should contact for details.
