Introduction:

Unreal Engine 4 is a game development software used by professionals in the industry. While having advanced technology, it also has features that allows beginners to easily start making a game, making it a great introduction to game development.

Note: This course satisfies the prerequisites for students participating in the Unreal Engine 4 + Virtual Reality course.

Course Description:

The course will focus on teaching students the basics of Unreal Engine 4 by making a simple game.

There are two key topics in this course:

  • Understanding the basic usage of Unreal Engine. Students learn how to navigate through the various screens/menus, and set up a basic template for a game.

  • Learning how to use blueprints, a visual programming feature in Unreal Engine. In other words, without typing codes, students can program the game by dragging and dropping boxes on a chart and connecting them together. Students will use the blueprints to control game mechanics such as moving the marble around and switching between different levels in the game.

Learning Outcomes:

•    Exposure to age-appropriate platforms utilizing emerging technologies.

•    Familiarity with emerging technologies and their real-world applications.

•    Understanding of basic design and programming fundamentals.

•    Critical thinking and problem solving with hands-on activities.
