The PV Net 3-D Computer Animation Summer Camp is a unique creative opportunity for school age students taught by film industry professionals. Here is where imagination runs free until captured in animated form just like your favorite big studio award winning films

In 3-hour Monday – Thursday sessions students are immersed in animation basics. They learn 3-D modeling, character design, how to create a digital skeleton for each character, and rendering the final scene. This is a high energy, hands-on camp where students actually create animated films, bringing imagined characters to life. The students develop their own stories, marry sight and sound, and edit video and audio…all accomplished using professional tools in a professional environment.

Our animation campers return year after year, often graduating to film and animation schools at top colleges and universities. By the end of each camp session students have received instruction leading to a completed product suitable for their own personal demo reel. The quality of our instruction is verified by several PV Net animation camp graduates now working for major animation studios around the world.

This is a three-week camp held 4 times during July and August on the PV Net campus overlooking Santa Monica Bay. Each session is held Monday through Thursday for three weeks. Select a morning or afternoon session and the month you want for your student or select multiple sessions for an advanced experience.

Are you fascinated with 3-D animation? Have you always wanted to master the computer programs that the professionals use? Do you enjoy learning in a fun group setting?

If you answered "yes" to any of those questions, you're in luck. Join our intensive summer 3-D animation classes to learn the skills you need to kick start your animation career.

Photoshop Elements 11 On Your Laptop!!
Work with your own pictures as you learn the program?

Everybody loves a great photograph. Learn how to transform your average digital photographs into really good pictures that give great pleasure to family and friends.

In only five two-hour sessions you will experience the joy of enhancing and editing your precious photos using Photoshop Elements. Now you can turn those washed out, dark or imperfect pictures into visual pleasure. Photoshop Elements is the perfect tool to correct those nasty in-camera mistakes.

Take this class and learn how to be more like a professional photographer by editing your pics before sending them to family and friends or posting on Facebook. It is really easy to do a lot of photo magic once you learn Photoshop Elements.

Every great image you see on the Internet or in print is usually enhanced. Photoshop Elements is ideal for photo hobbyists wanting to create, edit, organize and share images, all from the same product. This excellent course features instruction using Photoshop Elements 11 (PSE11), the latest version of this extremely popular and capable photo editing tool.

Oh, by the way, Photoshop Elements is not some knock-off software application program. This is a scaled down version of the top selling Photoshop program used worldwide by professional photographers and image editors. Photoshop Elements is a PC application program created especially for people like you.

This class is designed for people like you, also. If you are new to photo editing this class teaches the essentials necessary to begin quickly and easily. Experienced Elements users learn how existing Catalog is displayed and how to transition to the new workflows provided in PSE 11.
Students need to bring their own laptop with Photoshop Elements 11 installed along with some of your own photos. If you have an earlier version of Elements, consider downloading the 30-day free trial of PSE 11 and installing it on your laptop to use during the class.

Photoshop Elements 11 is taught by Don Stouder, the well-known teacher of digital photographic applications. Be sure to visit Don’s website www.donstouder.com for an overview of his approach to having fun with digital photography.

The look and feel of Adobe’s Photoshop Elements 11 was totally redesigned from earlier versions of the program. This has led to new ways to use the program that are fundamentally different than earlier versions. This is true for both the Organizer, as well as the Photo Editor of PSE 11.

Have you been using and older version of Photoshop Elements and have recently bought the new version and finding it confusing because it looks so different?

  • Are you considering buying or upgrading your older Adobe Photoshop Elements (PSE) software to Version 11?
  • Are you doing your photo editing on a laptop computer, or do you want to begin working with your photos on your laptop?
  • Would you like to work with your own pictures as you learn the program?
  • Are you using Photoshop Elements on an Apple laptop?

If one or more of the above, apply to you, this is the course for you. As the title says, it will be taught using Photoshop Elements 11 installed on a laptop. The class will cover both using the Organizer and the Editor in PSE.

You will need to bring in your laptop with Photoshop Elements 11 installed along with some of your own photos. If you have an earlier version of Elements, consider downloading the 30-day free trial of PSE 11 and installing it on your laptop to use during the class.

This five-week course will cover the essentials of coming up to speed on PSE 11, whether you are a totally new user or have been using older versions of the program.

For previous users, you will learn how your existing Catalog is displayed and how to transition to the new workflows provided in PSE 11. For new users, you will learn the essentials to get you started on the right foot. The five-week class will focus on the Organizer, since the biggest changes were made there, but the Photo Editor will also be covered.

3-D Printing
Educational Technology Initiative

PVNet’s 3D Printing Program students learn the processes required to produce a finished product. Students learn how to prepare virtual blueprints from computer aided design (CAD) software.

So, what actually is 3D Printing? 3D printing is a fascinating process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model. It is an example of technology innovation opening many education and career opportunities. The first working 3-D printer dates back to 1984.  This technology is now getting wide spread interest via Internet exposure of medical device manufacturing, jewelry, clothing, and even firearms.

Another method is using animation-modeling software providing a 3D printer (machine) a guideline for printing
This unique PVNet class exposes students to a technology used for prototyping and distributed manufacturing of jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering, automotive, aerospace, along with other business sectors. PVNet hopes that program graduates may qualify for advanced college placement, as have some graduates of other PVNet training programs.

When the software design is completed, the student will observe the ‘printing’ of their original design. The process is captivating.  Depending on the machine used, material or a binding material is deposited on the build bed or platform in a manner similar to how toner is applied to paper in a laser printer.

When the material/binder layering is complete, the final 3D model has been "printed." It is a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) process where the virtual model and the physical model are almost identical.

This 3D printing course offers students insight beyond obvious technology experience. As a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) Education Partner, PVNet fills a needed learning gap role. It offers sophisticated training for students on the cusp of deciding future education choices.

This is a no-cost course offered to local students. Community donations of equipment, volunteer trainers, supplies, and financial assistance defray course expenses. Upon pilot program   completion and evaluation the 3D printing class will become part of the standard PVNet  award-winning curriculum. Future class fees are determined upon course acceptance by the PVNet Education Committee.

Class site is PVNet’s Computer Technology Center Learning Annex on the City of Rancho Palos Verdes Civic Center Campus, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes, California 90275.

Internships and Professional Development

GISCENTRAL is where Palos Verdes on the Net (PV NET) provides Geographic Information Systems services and training.

There are several exceptional benefits from GIS Central’s GIS training program. Our customers tell us of greatly increased staff efficiency, productivity, and knowledge. Many students learn GIS training leads to new business and employment opportunities. As with other disciplines life-long learning is proven to bring lifelong rewards.

We've learned from many years' experience that it is nearly impossible to effectively teach GIS in a structured, lecture type class or from a text book. PVNET's GIS teaching and training success is achieved by using ESRI's Virtual Campus Learning courses.

We pride ourselves in providing free services to seniors, work force development and computer skill for our youth and college students.
